World Boss

Important
The RPG module is currently in beta. Server admins must enable it manually on the Modules page of the web dashboard before these commands become available to members.

A world boss is one boss the whole server fights together. It stays for 48 hours, everyone attacks the same HP, and when it falls every fighter is paid for their level. While a boss is up, the home screen shows its HP and your attacks ready, with a World boss button. You can also open it from More → World boss or from the World Boss tab of your character in the web dashboard.

When a Boss Appears

Server admins decide when bosses come: on a fixed schedule (every week, or every few days) or summoned by hand, see the RPG module guide. A boss only appears on a server where at least three different players played the RPG in the last seven days.

When a boss appears, the server's announcement channel gets a card, and players who played on the server in the last seven days get a DM, unless they turned that reminder off (see Server Events & Reminders).

Which Boss and How Strong

The boss is sized for the characters active on the server in the last seven days. Its level is the middle level of those characters, and that level picks the boss:

Boss From level Ability
Grimmaw the Bog Tyrant 1 Poison
Korrath the Ashen Colossus 25 Double strike
Nyxara the Veil Weaver 60 Dodge
Vael'thuun the World Serpent 100 Double strike

Its HP grows with every active character: on average, each of them needs about three attacks to bring it down. It is meant to be beaten together, and a small server gets a small boss.

Attacking

  • Attacks: you have 3 attacks. A spent attack comes back after 4 hours, and you never hold more than 3.
  • The fight: each attack is a short automatic fight of at most 12 rounds against the boss, measured at your own level. Your gear, skills, class passive, active pet and elixirs count as in a hunt. The damage you deal comes off the shared HP.
  • Your HP: an attack never costs more than half the HP you had before it. Falling in an attack is no defeat: there is no penalty and no break.
  • Before you attack: you need a character, more than a quarter of your HP, and no defeat break running.

The screen shows the boss's HP, your damage and rank, your attacks ready with the time of the next one, and the top 10 fighters.

Phases

The boss changes as its shared HP falls:

  • Above half: it fights normally.
  • Frenzy (half or less): it hits 15 % harder.
  • Enraged (a tenth or less): it hits 35 % harder, but its armor cracks and its defense is halved.

The announcement channel is told when the boss reaches half and a tenth of its HP.

Rewards

Fighters are ranked by damage; on a tie, the one who struck first ranks higher. Gold and XP are measured in hunt wins at each fighter's own level:

Rank Gold and XP Item
1 150 hunt wins Epic gear
2 to 3 120 hunt wins Rare gear
4 to 10 90 hunt wins Rare gear
Everyone else 60 hunt wins Rare gear
Note
A fighter needs at least 2 attacks, or 1 % of the boss's HP in damage, to earn their rank's reward. Below that, they get only a part of the participant gold and XP, in proportion to their damage, and no item, title, role or quest progress.

If the boss escapes: after 48 hours an undefeated boss leaves. Every fighter still gets the gold and XP of their rank, multiplied by the share of HP the server took off, but no item, title or role.

A defeated boss also counts for quests and achievements, and an ended boss stays on the screen with its result for a day.

Titles and Roles

  • World Boss Slayer: the title of the fighter who dealt the most damage to a defeated boss.
  • World Boss Veteran: the title for having earned a reward from five defeated bosses.
  • Roles: the server can hand out a World boss slayer role to the top fighter and a World boss fighter role to everyone who earned a reward. Both pass to the fighters of the next defeated boss.

All titles are listed on Seasons & Titles.
