The first thing a new member sees when they join your Discord server shapes their entire perception of the community. A silent join feels impersonal. A well-crafted welcome message makes them feel expected.
Levlix handles both welcome and goodbye messages with a simple, dashboard-driven setup.
Welcome Messages
When a new member joins your server, Levlix sends a message to the channel you configure. The message supports dynamic placeholders that are filled in automatically:
{user}becomes the new member's @mention{username}becomes their account name{displayname}becomes their display name{server}becomes your server name{member_count}becomes the current total member count
A message like "Welcome {user} to {server}! You are member number {member_count}." becomes a personalized greeting for every single person who joins.
Goodbye Messages
When a member leaves or is removed, Levlix can send a goodbye message to a configured channel. The same placeholders are available, and the goodbye channel can be the same as the welcome channel or a completely different one.
Goodbye messages serve a subtle but important purpose: they signal to the remaining community that the server is actively managed and that member changes are noticed.
Dashboard Setup
Both welcome and goodbye messages are configured entirely through the Levlix Web Dashboard. No Discord commands are needed.
- Log into the dashboard and select your server.
- Navigate to Server Settings.
- Set the welcome channel and message.
- Set the goodbye channel and message (optional).
- Save. Changes take effect immediately.
Each message type is independent. You can configure a welcome message without a goodbye message, or vice versa. If no channel or message is set, Levlix stays silent, the module does nothing until you explicitly configure it.
Why This Matters
Community research consistently shows that the first 24 hours determine whether a new member stays or leaves. A welcome message does three things:
- Confirms the join was successful. New members sometimes wonder if they actually got in.
- Sets the tone. A friendly greeting signals that the community is welcoming.
- Directs attention. You can include rules channels, role selection, or introduction prompts in the message itself.
Goodbye messages, while less critical, help admins stay aware of churn and signal to active members that the server tracks its community.
