Individual rewards keep members logging in. Collective goals keep them talking to each other. That is the difference between a server with active users and a server with a real community.
Levlix now offers two milestone systems that work together to drive both personal progression and shared purpose: User Milestones and Server Milestones.
The Psychology Behind Milestones
Research in behavioral psychology consistently shows that progress indicators increase task completion rates. When people can see how far they have come and how close they are to a reward, they keep going. Discord communities are no different.
| Engagement Driver | How Milestones Deliver |
|---|---|
| Progress visibility | Visual progress bars show exactly how close you are |
| Social proof | Leaderboards show who is contributing the most |
| Loss aversion | Streaks and contribution percentages make quitting feel costly |
| Collective identity | Server milestones unite members around a shared mission |
User Milestones - Personal Achievement Tracking
User milestones reward members for their individual activity across five categories:
- Messages - Every message sent in tracked channels counts toward your next milestone.
- Voice Minutes - Time spent in voice channels earns progress automatically.
- Reactions - Reacting to messages shows community engagement and earns milestone credit.
- Threads Created - Starting discussions advances your thread milestone.
- Invites - Growing the community by inviting friends tracks toward invite milestones.
How It Works
Each category has multiple levels with increasing requirements. Reaching a level awards Levlix Points that can be spent in the shop or used in minigames.
Members check their progress with:
/milestones
This opens an interactive view with tabs for an overview, the levels of each category, server goals and the leaderboard. The view includes motivational messages based on progress, activity-specific tips, and a summary of points earned and points available.
For a quick competitive snapshot, the Leaderboard tab ranks all members by total levels achieved.
Server Milestones - The Collective Challenge
Server milestones are community-wide goals that every member contributes to collectively. An administrator sets a target, and the entire server works together to reach it.
Example Goals
- "Send 100,000 messages this month" (message_count type)
- "Accumulate 50,000 voice minutes" (voice_minutes type)
- "Create 500 new discussion threads" (thread_count type)
- "Reach 200 new invites before summer" (invite_count type)
- Any custom goal the admin defines (custom type)
Creating a Server Milestone
Administrators create milestones in /setup under Server Milestones, which opens the milestones card on its Server goals tab. The Milestones page of the web dashboard offers the same:
/setup
Every member who contributes to the goal earns the reward when the milestone is completed. Contributions are tracked automatically based on the milestone type, so there is nothing extra for members to do. Just keep participating.
Viewing Progress
Members can check the community's progress at any time:
/milestones
The Server goals tab shows all active milestones with progress bars, personal contribution amounts, and expiration dates.
Claiming Rewards
When a server milestone is completed, every contributing member can claim their reward with the claim button in the Server goals tab of /milestones. It collects all finished rewards at once, so nobody misses out.
Combining Both Systems for Maximum Impact
The real power comes from running both systems simultaneously:
- User milestones provide a steady personal progression loop that keeps individuals logging in.
- Server milestones create urgency and shared purpose that turn those individuals into a team.
A member who logs in to check their personal voice milestone might notice the server is at 95% of a collective voice goal. That awareness alone can turn a 10-minute visit into an hour-long voice session.
Admin Best Practices
- Start small. A milestone that takes months to complete will feel unreachable. Set the first server milestone to something achievable within two weeks.
- Rotate milestone types. A message milestone followed by a voice milestone followed by a reaction milestone ensures every type of community member gets a chance to contribute.
- Use expiration dates. Open-ended milestones lose urgency. A 30-day deadline creates healthy time pressure.
- Announce completions. When a server milestone is reached, celebrate it publicly. Use the Notification System to automate announcements.
- Combine with events. Run a server milestone alongside a seasonal event for compounding engagement.
Getting Started
For User Milestones:
Members simply participate. Milestones are tracked automatically. Check progress with /milestones.
For Server Milestones:
Administrators create goals in /setup or on the dashboard's Milestones page. Members view and contribute automatically via their normal server activity.
