Giveaways work. They create excitement, reward active members, and give lurkers a reason to participate. The challenge has always been the logistics: creating the announcement, tracking participants, picking winners fairly, and distributing rewards without any of it feeling rigged.
Levlix automates every step of that process.
Setting Up a Giveaway
Server admins create a giveaway using the admin giveaway command, selecting the channel where the announcement should appear. A setup form opens immediately with five fields:
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| Title | The headline of the giveaway post |
| Description | Optional context, rules, or flavor text |
| Points Prize | How many points each winner receives |
| Number of Winners | How many members win (supports multiple winners) |
| Duration | How long the giveaway runs (60m, 1h, 1d, 2d12h, etc.) |
Submit the form and the giveaway post appears in the designated channel instantly.
How the Drawing Works
When the timer expires, Levlix selects winners automatically:
- All valid participants are collected.
- Levlix selects the configured number of winners at random.
- The winners are announced in the giveaway channel.
- The point prize is credited directly to each winner's balance.
The whole process happens automatically at the exact moment the giveaway ends. Admins do not need to be online.
Requirement Gates: Keeping It Fair
A common problem with public Discord giveaways is abuse from alternate accounts, where people create throwaway profiles specifically to enter. Levlix addresses this with a requirement gate:
- Game ID required: Only members with a registered Game ID can enter. Admins set it per giveaway or as the server default with
/giveaway settings, so throwaway profiles without a linked game account stay out.
Members who attempt to enter without meeting the requirements are notified privately via an ephemeral message.
Why Points Prizes Work Well
Awarding server points rather than external prizes has practical advantages worth considering:
- No logistics. There is no delivery, no DM coordination, no chance of prizes going unclaimed.
- Stays within the ecosystem. Winners spend their points in the shop or on mini games, which drives further engagement.
- Scalable. You can run giveaways frequently without increasing costs.
That said, nothing stops admins from running a giveaway for a role reward, an external code, or purely for recognition. The points prize field gives you a zero-friction option that works out of the box.
Giveaways and Community Psychology
Research on community management consistently shows that recognition is one of the primary drivers of long-term retention. Members who feel noticed, even through something as simple as winning a points giveaway, are more likely to remain active contributors.
Running regular giveaways signals that the server is active and that the admin team cares about rewarding the community. Both of those signals matter for growth.
